Ian Tyley is a Sydney-based cinematographer and photographer. Since graduating from AFTRS with a Masters in Cinematography in 2021, he's built a body of work across documentary, short film, branded content, and music video.
His background is in photography, and that shapes how he approaches the frame. He thinks carefully about what's in a shot and what isn't. His short films have screened at festivals internationally, and his work has been recognised with two ACS Silver Awards and a Bronze across drama, experimental and branded content.
The 2025 Bronze came for the ADT campaign "Protect What You've Built." The Silver Awards recognised his experimental short "Beneath the Light" and his AFTRS graduation film "Endlessnessism." A music video he shot for Marcelo De La Vega also won at the Clipped Music Video Festival in 2021.
He works closely with directors and figures out the visual approach from the inside of each project, not the other way around.
